Coloring order

Start big with the shepherd child's headcloth and striped robe in earthy brown and cream.
Color the fluffy toy lamb in the child's arms pale cream and the curved staff in dark brown.
Finish with the friends sitting on the stage steps behind, the blue curtains and the big glowing star above.

Questions to talk about

What does the shepherd child say while looking up at the star?
What parts might the friends sitting behind on the stage be playing?
If you named the toy lamb, what would you call it?

Take it further

Make props for the Christmas pageant gentle shepherds. Roll newspaper into a staff, tie a towel as a headcloth, and decide on one line to say.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
