Coloring order

  1. Color the sharply folded body of the futuristic supercar first, using one or two shades from sky blue to deep blue.
  2. Use dark and light colors for the angular air openings at the front, the big wheels and the white crosswalk stripes on the road.
  3. Last, color the rows of tall buildings, the elevated train track, the street lamps and the trees in blues and greens, one space at a time.

Questions to talk about

  • Where is the train way up in the sky headed?
  • How might the cars of the future be different from today's?
  • Have you visited a place with lots of tall buildings? What did you see?

Take it further

Stack empty boxes and cardboard tubes into a future city, and set a paper car on a road you draw. Decide which building will be the tallest.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
