Coloring order

  1. Color Dori's long, slim body teal, and alternate pale purple, sky blue and lime across the four clear wings, section by section.
  2. Use brown and green for the cattail head and stalk she is gripping, and make the round eyes clear and bold.
  3. Finish the pond-side grass blades, the little ripples and the lily pads at the bottom in blue and green.

Questions to talk about

  • How many wings does Dori have? Let's count them.
  • What is Dori looking at from her perch on the cattail?
  • Have you seen an insect near water? How did it move?

Take it further

Cut cellophane into wing shapes, attach them to a paper body to make Dori, and hold her up to a window to see how the colors glow.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
