Coloring order

  1. Color Ian's red jacket and navy pants first as the big areas, and use yellow for the reflective bands on the sleeves and cuffs.
  2. Color the large first-aid backpack red, and leave the white cross on it blank or fill it with a crisp white.
  3. Finish with the rolled-up bandage-like item in his hand, the many-pocketed pants and the thick black boots.

Questions to talk about

  • Who do you think Paramedic Ian is rushing off to help?
  • What kinds of things might be inside that first-aid bag?
  • What could you do if you met a friend who got hurt?

Take it further

Like Paramedic Ian, wrap a little tissue gently around a doll's arm and ask, Are you okay? Also talk about how to ask a grown-up for help.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
