Coloring order

  1. Color the watermelon wedge first: red for the inside, green for the rind, and tiny black dots for the seeds.
  2. Color the round grapes in the bunch in purple and plum, taking turns so each one stands out.
  3. Finish the big leaf and curly tendrils above in green and the wooden table underneath in two browns.

Questions to talk about

  • How many grapes can you count? Try counting in groups of ten.
  • Which would be heavier, the grape bunch or the watermelon slice?
  • Have you shared watermelon or grapes with family in summer? Who was there?

Take it further

Cut lots of purple paper circles and glue them into a grape bunch shape. Count how many you used and write the number beside it.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
