Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 4–7
Estimated time: 20–30 min
Difficulty: Easy
Areas to color: about 130

Coloring order

Color the fox's orange body and bushy tail first, leaving the white tail tip as plain paper and the cream under the chin untouched.
Give the three big pumpkins different oranges, and use green for the stems, the vines and the little curly tendrils.
Last, do the basket it is holding, the red-and-cream checkered scarf, the fence and bushes behind and the smiling cloud above.

Questions to talk about

Which pumpkin will the fox choose? They are all different sizes.
What could you make with a pumpkin like these?
Have you seen vegetables or fruit growing in a field or market?

Take it further

Draw pumpkins in lots of sizes and line them up from biggest to smallest. Give each one a name and a face, then tell a pumpkin family story.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
