Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 6–9
Estimated time: 35–50 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 180

Coloring order

Start with the orange body and big curled tail of the squirrel holding an acorn under the red and cream striped roof.
Mix two or three browns for the acorns piled in the baskets, and color only the insides of the white bunny customer's ears pink.
Take your time to finish the red mushrooms, the fallen autumn leaves and the yellow butterfly one by one at the very end.

Questions to talk about

What did the bunny come to the market to trade for acorns?
What would you name the squirrel's shop?
Is there a shop at a market or store that you remember well?

Take it further

Make lots of acorns from brown paper or clay and open your own 'squirrel acorn market', buying, selling and counting them.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
