Coloring order

  1. Start with the large waterside area: the lily pads, water lilies and the stone bridge behind, in greens and teals.
  2. Color the small frog and the golden ball it sits on in yellow and gold, then the princess's braid and her green gown.
  3. Last, add the lotus and leaf embroidery on her skirt, the small crown, and the willow branches hanging near the top.

Questions to talk about

  • What favor might the frog on the golden ball be asking of the princess?
  • Why do you think the princess rests her chin on her hand?
  • What might you see if you sat quietly by a pond?

Take it further

Crumple paper into round golden balls and roll them gently into a box. Count how many made it in.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
