Coloring order
- Leave the white field of the Taegeukgi as it is. Color the grassy hill below in light and dark greens, then paint the flagpole brown.
- In the center swirl, color the upper half red and the lower half blue, going slowly along the S-shaped line where the two colors meet.
- Color the bar patterns in the four corners black. Check which bars are solid and which are broken, and color them one bar at a time.
Questions to talk about
- How do the red and blue parts in the middle fit together?
- How would it feel to stand on the hill and look up at this flag?
- If you have seen the Taegeukgi before, where was it, and what was the day like?
Take it further
Trace a cup on white paper for the circle, draw the swirl and the four corner bars, then tape it to a straw to make a small flag you can wave.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
