Coloring order
- Start by coloring the Colosseum's curving outer wall in one pale golden brown, running it from floor to floor.
- Fill the dark inside of each arch in the long rows with deep brown, one at a time.
- Last, vary the shades for the broken part where the inside shows, the small square windows on the top level and the stones on the ground.
Questions to talk about
- Can you point to each row of arches? How many rows do you see?
- What do you imagine happened inside this huge building long ago?
- What is the biggest building you have ever been inside?
Take it further
Draw arches on several paper strips, cut them out and tape the strips into a ring to make a small arena. Stand a toy inside and decide on a game to play.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
