Coloring order

  1. Color the eagle's wide spread wings deep brown first, leave the white head feathers as plain paper, and make the beak and feet yellow.
  2. Fill the main U.S. map shape light blue, then use the same blue for Alaska at the lower left and the Hawaiian islands at the lower right.
  3. Last, do the navy scarf, the eyes and each feather at the wing tips, alternating two browns one feather at a time.

Questions to talk about

  • Can you count the feathers at the eagle's wing tips with your finger?
  • What would the land look like from high in the sky?
  • Have you ever looked down from a high place? What did you see?

Take it further

Stretch your arms like eagle wings and glide slowly around the room. Layer paper strips one over another to make an eagle wing picture.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
