Coloring order
- Color the long line of Japan's islands, which form the crane's body, in one light pink, and match the small island pieces at the bottom.
- Color the red patch on its head, the beak and the eye in bold dark shades first to bring out the crane's face.
- On the outstretched wings, alternate white and black feathers band by band, finishing the wing tips in the darkest color.
Questions to talk about
- How far along the long chain of islands might the crane travel?
- Which part of the crane does the long shape of the Japan map look like?
- If you set off on a faraway trip, what would you bring?
Take it further
Fold or cut a bird with spread wings from colored paper and say hello in Japanese, konnichiwa, to your crane.
