Coloring order

  1. Color the scroll Josiah holds open in pale cream, and give his small gold crown and purple tunic a bold, clear color.
  2. Alternate gold and yellow on the leaf-shaped tops of the columns, and color the column shafts a light stone shade.
  3. Last, color the little oil lamp on the stone block at right and the stone tiles on the floor.

Questions to talk about

  • What did Josiah read in the scroll that made him look so surprised?
  • How might a young king want to lead his people?
  • Have you ever read good words or a promise and kept it in your heart?

Take it further

Make a scroll. Tape cardboard tubes to both ends of a long strip of paper, roll it up, then write one promise you want to keep and read it aloud.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
