Coloring order

Color the thick branch Zacchaeus sits on and the trunk a big area of brown, and carry the same color up into the branches above.
Do his wide-open arms, pale beige robe and smiling face, then his sandal straps in dark brown.
Alternate two or three greens on the leaves, and make the figs hanging on the branches purple or light green.

Questions to talk about

Who is Zacchaeus waving to from up in the tree?
How would you feel if someone called out your name while you were up in a tree?
Have you ever tried hard to see something higher than you could reach?

Take it further

Draw a thick tree trunk and branches on a big sheet of paper and hang it on the wall. Draw your face on a sticky note and wave hello from a branch like Zacchaeus.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
