Coloring order

  1. Color the lunar rover's angular body in one pale gray first, and give the windows a cool light blue.
  2. Use separate colors for the orange cargo boxes on the back, the gripper on the robot arm in front and the gold rod-like legs.
  3. Color the big tires and tracks, the craters, the base dome and the dish antenna, then finish with Earth in the sky in blue and green.

Questions to talk about

  • What would you pick up from the Moon with the robot arm's claw?
  • What might be happening on Earth, far away in the sky right now?
  • If you went to the Moon, what one thing would you bring along?

Take it further

Crumple newspaper into Moon rocks and press foil to make crater shapes. Then build a path where a toy rover can drive across the surface.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
