Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 8–12
Estimated time: 50–75 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 360

Coloring order

Color the Beetle's round roof and rounded front fenders in one sky blue first, smooth and even.
Then try silver for the round headlights and bumper, and cream around the wheels.
Last, add the pink and red flowers climbing the wall, the lamp by the stairs and the tiny sailboats on the sea, starting with the small spaces.

Questions to talk about

Why do you think the Beetle is shaped so round?
Where might those stairs by the sea lead?
Have you ever been to the seaside? What do you remember most?

Take it further

Fold a paper plate in half to make a round Beetle roof, glue on paper wheels, and stand it on a street you draw on your desk.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

About this image

The black-and-white line art you print and color. Drawn without logos or wordmarks, body shape only.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
