Activity guide for this page

- Estimated time
- 15–25 min
- Difficulty
- Medium
- Areas to color
- about 19
Coloring order
- Begin with the long body, thick hind legs and the tail that rests on the ground, in a warm sandy brown.
- Color the pouch and chest cream. The little joey peeking out can be a slightly deeper brown than its mother.
- Finish the tall upright ears with pink inside, and the eyes and nose in a dark shade.
Questions to talk about
- What is the little joey looking at from inside the pouch?
- When the mother hops, how might the baby feel in there?
- Have you ever been carried or cuddled? What was it like?
Take it further
Slip a small doll into an apron pocket or paper bag and walk carefully like a mother kangaroo. Add gentle little hops if there is room.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
