Areas to color: about 100

Coloring order

Color Banti's body light mint or green, and make the glow from her tail soft yellow and lime, spreading out in a round shape.
Make the glass lamp yellow in the center and orange around the edge, and tint the clear wings pale lime.
Cover the night sky in deep navy or purple, then finish with the cattails and tiny flowers at the end.

Questions to talk about

Where is Banti going to light the way with her lamp?
How would you feel with a tiny light on a dark night?
Do you remember what shape the moon was on a recent night?

Take it further

With a grown-up, shine a flashlight into a paper cup to make a little lantern, then tell a story in a dark room about lighting the way like Banti.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
