Coloring order

  1. Color Stella's navy coat and purple scarf first, then fill in the little stars scattered over the coat one by one in yellow.
  2. Next, color the brass telescope she peers through with one eye closed, and the three-legged tripod, in gold and brown.
  3. Last, calmly color the dots and lines on the round star chart in her hand, the fringe on her scarf and her brown boots.

Questions to talk about

  • What shape do you think the star Stella is searching for has?
  • If you made your own constellation on that chart, what would you name it?
  • Have you ever looked up at the night sky? What did you see?

Take it further

Dot stars on black paper with a white crayon or stickers, join them with lines into your own constellation, and tell its story like an astronomer.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
