Coloring order
- Color both otters' brown fur, cream bellies and wide tails first, and the paw pads in round pink circles.
- Alternate red squares on the checkered blanket, then give the sandwich, the pink cup, the thermos and the covered basket different colors.
- Take your time on the last parts: the blue ripples of the river, the brown cattail heads, the dragonfly and the white flowers.
Questions to talk about
- One otter holds a sandwich and the other a cup. What are they talking about?
- What else might be inside the picnic basket?
- Have you ever been to a riverside? What did you see and hear?
Take it further
Spread a cloth on the floor and have a picnic with your stuffed toys, drawing and naming the lunch you would pack for the otters.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
