Coloring order

  1. Color the piglet's pink face, ears and body first in one soft shade, then carry on with the mint overalls and the pocket on the chest.
  2. Make the raised carrot and the basket carrots orange, and layer two greens on the cabbages so each leaf looks different.
  3. Finish with the big pumpkin, the wooden fence behind, the smiling sun and the clouds, using two browns for the basket weave.

Questions to talk about

  • The piglet is holding a carrot up high. How might it feel?
  • Which vegetable in the garden do you think grew the biggest?
  • Have you ever grown a plant at home or in a park?

Take it further

Draw three vegetables you would plant in a class garden and add name tags to make a garden map. Each friend picks one spot for their plant.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
