Coloring order
- Begin with the large areas around the fountain and the tiled courtyard floor, in sandy tones and teal.

- Last, add the lanterns hanging from the arch, the palm trees, the domed buildings far away, and the crescent moon and stars.
Questions to talk about
- Where do you think the princess found her star lantern?
- How would it feel to hear a fountain splash in the desert?
- Which star would you look for first in the night sky?
Take it further
Draw a row of diamonds on grid paper and color them in two or three alternating colors to make your own patterned band for a robe.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
