Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 6–9
Estimated time: 10–20 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 6

Coloring order

Color the four corners outside the diamond green, tracing along the diamond's edges first and then filling in the rest.
Color inside the diamond yellow and the round circle in the middle a deep blue, leaving the band across it empty.
Leave the band across the circle and the scattered little stars white or very pale. You don't need to color the words on the band.

Questions to talk about

Which is the biggest shape here: the rectangle, the diamond or the circle?
If you connected the little stars inside the circle, what shape would they make?
Have you ever looked up at the night sky full of stars? Where were you?

Take it further

Cut a yellow diamond and a blue circle, layer them on a green rectangle, and say each shape's name out loud as you glue it down.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
