Coloring order
- Color the statue's two arms stretched wide and the long robe falling down its body in pale gray or cream, in big smooth strokes.
- Use a slightly darker gray for the head and face and for the vertical folds falling across the chest, to give it depth.
- Color the big square pedestal below in dark gray or brown, and finish with the stepped section at the top of the pedestal.
Questions to talk about
- With arms spread so wide, what feeling does this statue show?
- Standing so high up, what might the statue see below?
- Have you ever opened your arms to hug someone? How did it feel?
Take it further
Shine a flashlight or sunlight so your shadow lands on a wall, then spread, raise and lower your arms to change your shadow's shape.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
