Coloring order
- Start with the biggest round tier at the bottom, and color each earthen wall in orange and brown, one tier at a time.
- Color the water on top of each tier in turquoise and light blue, changing the shade slightly from tier to tier so it looks like standing water.
- Color the grassy rim around each tier in light green, and the water on the smallest top tier in the lightest color, last.
Questions to talk about
- How would you feel climbing up these round, stacked fields?
- If the water on the top tier flowed down, what path would it take?
- Have you ever dipped your feet in water? What did it feel like?
Take it further
Press clay into round flat disks, stack them from biggest to smallest into a terrace model, and paint green and blue on each tier.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
