Coloring order
- Color the flat-topped cliff of Table Mountain in blue-tinted gray in a long horizontal sweep, and darken the vertical cracks.
- Alternate brown and olive green on the slopes below so the overlapping ridges show clearly.
- Last, color the low hill in front in the darkest green to make the mountain behind feel far away.
Questions to talk about
- The mountaintop looks cut flat. What would you do up there?
- If this mountain could talk, who would it talk to and what would it say?
- Is there a mountain or hill you can see from home or school? What does it look like?
Take it further
Lay a few books flat and stack them into a flat-topped mountain, place a small doll on top and make up what it shouts from the summit.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
