Coloring order

  1. Color the flat-topped cliff of Table Mountain in blue-tinted gray in a long horizontal sweep, and darken the vertical cracks.
  2. Alternate brown and olive green on the slopes below so the overlapping ridges show clearly.
  3. Last, color the low hill in front in the darkest green to make the mountain behind feel far away.

Questions to talk about

  • The mountaintop looks cut flat. What would you do up there?
  • If this mountain could talk, who would it talk to and what would it say?
  • Is there a mountain or hill you can see from home or school? What does it look like?

Take it further

Lay a few books flat and stack them into a flat-topped mountain, place a small doll on top and make up what it shouts from the summit.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
