Coloring order

  1. Color the bare rock faces of the Matterhorn's pointed peak in deep blue-gray in big areas, and split the shade where the ridges fold.
  2. Leave the snow streaking down between the rocks white, or add only a very pale sky blue.
  3. Alternate light blue and white on the wide snowfields below, and trace the ridge edges once more with a dark color at the very end.

Questions to talk about

  • If you stood on that sharp peak, what would you shout first?
  • Where is the snow resting on this mountain, and why there?
  • Have you ever built a snowman or ridden a sled on a snowy day?

Take it further

Crumple a sheet of white paper and open it flat, shade it with blue crayon for texture, then tear white paper snow to glue on for your own mountain.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
