Coloring order
- On the map of Australia, color the big rounded land deep navy like the flag above, following the sharp point at upper right and the dent below.
- Color the small island set apart at the lower right in the same navy or a sky blue to tell it apart.
- Looking at the stars on the flag, dot a few white stars with a white pencil on the finished map for a night-sky look.
Questions to talk about
- What does the pointed part at the upper right of the big land look like?
- What would you do spending a day on the small island at the bottom?
- Have you ever run in a really wide open space? How did it feel?
Take it further
Lay the map on navy paper and, with a white crayon, draw wavy lines around its edge to make a sea around the land.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
