Coloring order

  1. Color the two friends' clothes under the olive tree first: one in cream, the other in blue so they are easy to tell apart.
  2. Use browns for the bow and the cloak they are passing between them, and warm colors for their curly hair and smiling faces.
  3. Finish with the two puppies at their feet, the leaves and the branches reaching overhead in olive green.

Questions to talk about

  • What are the two friends saying to each other as they trade gifts?
  • What does giving a bow and a cloak show about how they feel?
  • What treasured thing of yours would you share with a friend?

Take it further

Make a friendship gift card. Draw a present you would give a friend on colored paper, and on the back write one thing you like about them.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
