Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 3–5
Estimated time: 5–15 min
Difficulty: Easy
Areas to color: about 3

Coloring order

Color the long curved back and tail in a bright blue first, in one smooth sweep.
Use light blue or white for the pale underside running to the chin and for the small fin on its side.
Finish the pointed snout, the eye and the notched tail tips with a deeper blue.

Questions to talk about

The dolphin is arching high out of the water. How high could it go?
What would the dolphin see at the very top of its jump?
Have you ever jumped really high? What did it feel like?

Take it further

Make one hand a wave and the other a dolphin, and jump over the wave. Invent a little story as you go.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
