Coloring order
- Divide the gray wolf into dark gray on the back and lighter gray on the belly and legs, and fill those big areas first.
- For the thick ruff from face to chest, use pale gray and cream in short strokes that follow the direction of the fur.
- Last, color the sharp eyes and nose in a dark shade, and darken the tip of the long tail hanging down behind.
Questions to talk about
- Which way are the wolf's ears pointing? What might it be listening to?
- If this wolf walked through the mountains at night, what would it see?
- Have you ever walked somewhere in a line with your friends?
Take it further
Draw what lies behind the wolf: a moonlit forest, a snowy hill, or any scene you imagine, and finish the whole picture.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
