Coloring order

  1. Begin with Indy's wide-brimmed hat, pocketed vest and shorts in earthy colors like sand, brown and khaki.
  2. Color the magnifying glass in one hand and the old map unrolled in the other differently, and trace the mountains and paths on the map in a darker color.
  3. Last, color the backpack straps, the long socks and the sturdy hiking boots in shades of brown.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think Indy is looking at through the magnifying glass?
  • If archaeologist-explorer Indy dug up an old object, what would he want to find out about it?
  • Have you ever looked closely at something in a yard or park with a magnifying glass?

Take it further

Crumple a sheet of brown paper into an old treasure map, draw paths and marks leading to a spot in your home, and go find the hidden treasure.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
