Coloring order
- Color the whole rectangle a vivid red, but leave the star shape in the middle empty.
- Color the star yellow, filling it in one point at a time and moving around the star.
- When you finish, count the star's points with your finger and check that no red has crept into the star.
Questions to talk about
- How many pointy tips does the star have?
- How does it feel to have a big star right in the middle?
- Have you ever had a star sticker or a star toy?
Take it further
Draw a star on yellow paper, have a grown-up help cut it out, and glue it onto red paper in different spots to see how the feeling changes.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
