Coloring order
- Color the tall obelisk in one cream shade from the bottom straight up to its pointed tip, with no gaps.
- Give each part of the child's outfit its own color: the wide-brimmed hat, blue poncho, red neckerchief and brown boots.
- Last, color the windows of the buildings on both sides, the white dashes on the road, the green tree, and the blue sky with clouds.
Questions to talk about
- What is the child pointing at, and what do you think they are saying?
- Can you find something tall and pointy in your home, like this tower?
- If you were meeting a friend in the middle of a busy city, where would you meet?
Take it further
Roll a long strip of paper into a triangle tube and fold a pointed tip on top to make a mini obelisk, then stand it on a neighborhood map on your desk.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips
- Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
- Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
- Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
- Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
- The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
