Coloring order

  1. Color the tall obelisk in one cream shade from the bottom straight up to its pointed tip, with no gaps.
  2. Give each part of the child's outfit its own color: the wide-brimmed hat, blue poncho, red neckerchief and brown boots.
  3. Last, color the windows of the buildings on both sides, the white dashes on the road, the green tree, and the blue sky with clouds.

Questions to talk about

  • What is the child pointing at, and what do you think they are saying?
  • Can you find something tall and pointy in your home, like this tower?
  • If you were meeting a friend in the middle of a busy city, where would you meet?

Take it further

Roll a long strip of paper into a triangle tube and fold a pointed tip on top to make a mini obelisk, then stand it on a neighborhood map on your desk.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
