Coloring order

  1. Start with the thick brick wall below the Great Wall's watchtower, covering it widely in one gray-brown.
  2. Color the stone path and steps winding along the wall light brown, and alternate two browns on the low notched wall along the top.
  3. Last, color the tile roof with its slightly upturned edges reddish brown, and make the small windows and the inside of the arched door dark.

Questions to talk about

  • If you walked all the way along this wall, where would you end up?
  • What do you think the person looking far out from the tower is watching for?
  • Have you ever walked along a long, winding path?

Take it further

Tape long paper strips into a winding wall path, set small paper-box towers along it, and lead it around a tabletop.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
