Coloring order
- Color the grid squares of the four big sails in dark brown or gray, and give the hub where they meet its own color.
- Paint the round, tapering body brick brown and the cap on top a darker shade, changing the brick rows slightly one by one.
- Last, color the railing of the balcony ringing the body, the small windows, the green door and the grass below.
Questions to talk about
- What sound might the sails make as the wind turns them?
- Who might live inside this windmill, and what work do they do?
- Have you flown a kite or pinwheel outside on a windy day?
Take it further
Make a paper pinwheel, tape it to a straw, and spin it by blowing or walking. Try to find which direction makes it spin best.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
