Coloring order

  1. Start with the huge mountain-like rock in orangey brown, and leave the flat top with its little building spots in a lighter color.
  2. Use a different green for each of the dark forest below the rock, the palm tree on the right and the round lily pads on the pond in front.
  3. Last, color the boy's white shirt, long blue wrap, sandals and the pink lotus he holds one at a time.

Questions to talk about

  • Let's imagine: who might have lived up on top of the Sigiriya rock?
  • Who do you think the boy wants to give his lotus to?
  • Have you ever spotted frogs or fish in a pond or stream?

Take it further

Glue several green lily pads onto a big sheet to make a pond, then play a game where a finger frog hops across them.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
