Coloring order
- On the map of the UK, the biggest island is narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. Follow its shape in navy or red from the flag above.
- Color the piece set apart on the left and the small islands scattered along the top in the same color as the big land.
- As you color the small islands, dot each one to be sure none is missed, and try switching one island to the flag's red.
Questions to talk about
- How is the top of the big island different from the bottom?
- If you picked one small island to build a house on, what kind of house would it be?
- Have you ever been somewhere surrounded by water, like an island?
Take it further
Make a big island and several small ones from modeling clay, set them on a tray, and spread a blue cloth around them for the sea.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
