Coloring order
- On the map of Italy, color the long, boot-shaped land green like the flag above, working slowly from the wide top down toward the toe.
- Color the big island on the left and the island beside the toe green or red to set them apart from the mainland.
- At the end, trace the wiggly lines around the toe and heel once more with a pencil tip to make the shape clear.
Questions to talk about
- What kind of shoe does this land look like to you?
- If you named the two separate islands, what would you call them?
- If you went on a picnic on green grass, what food would you bring?
Take it further
Cut a boot shape from colored paper, lay it next to this map, and talk about how the two are alike and different. Use scissors with a grown-up.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
