Coloring order

  1. Color Mong's cozy body a broad gray-brown or beige, and add a touch of light pink on the cheeks.
  2. Use deep green for the seaweed bundle in its flipper, and purple for the little flowers, so they stand apart from the body.
  3. Color the tall seaweed around in several greens, and save the striped tropical fish, the little crab and the starfish below for last.

Questions to talk about

  • After one bite of seaweed, what would Mong say it tastes like?
  • Who do you think the seaweed Mong is holding is a gift for?
  • What's your face like when you eat something you love?

Take it further

Cut long strips of green paper into seaweed and glue them in front of Mong, one strip at a time, until a whole seaweed forest grows.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
