Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 3–6
Estimated time: 10–15 min
Difficulty: Easy
Areas to color: about 30

Coloring order

Start with Lumi's plump navy body, leaving the whites of the eyes and the smiling mouth uncolored so they pop.
Make the round lantern at the end of the long line on its head the brightest yellow, and color the fins light green.
Last, color the coral and the star sparkles below in purple, pink and teal so they glow in the dark sea.

Questions to talk about

What do you think Lumi's lantern is lighting up in the dark?
What might Lumi do if its lantern went out?
Has a tiny light ever made a dark night feel better for you?

Take it further

With a grown-up, dim the room and use a flashlight as Lumi's lantern. Shine it on the wall and take turns saying what you see.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
