Coloring order

  1. Color Guani's olive body and tail first, then give each of the spiky ridges down its back an orange or brown shade, one at a time.
  2. Use a slightly darker green for the face, the smile and the four paddling feet to set them off from the body.
  3. Last, color the rocks and seagrass meadow underwater in greens, teal and gray, and the sunlight streaming down in pale yellow.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think the spiky ridges on Guani's back are for?
  • What kinds of fish might live where Guani swims by?
  • What did sounds seem like when you put your head under water?

Take it further

Shape Guani's body from green clay and press spiky ridges down its back one by one. Count how many you add and give it a name.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
