Coloring order

  1. Working from the center outward along the swirling shell, alternate orange-brown and cream stripes on Rolly's shell.
  2. Take your time with the blue body, the eye and the orange tentacles peeking out, so they don't spill onto the shell.
  3. Color the coral, the anemones and the little fish above, then fill the ocean background with deep blue last.

Questions to talk about

  • Where do the stripes on Rolly's shell start, and where do they end?
  • What sounds would you hear if you hid inside Rolly's shell?
  • Have you ever seen a snail or a seashell? What shape was it?

Take it further

Roll a long rope of clay and coil it round and round into Rolly's spiral shell. Talk about where you started the coil.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
