Coloring order
- Color the thickest band in the very middle a deep blue, and compare by eye how much wider it is than the others.
- Color the top and bottom bands the same red, and leave the two thin bands right next to the blue band white.
- Check that the colors read the same going down as going up, like a mirror, and tidy up any gaps at the end.

- Which one of the five bands is the thickest?
- How are the colors at the top and the bottom alike?
- Have you seen something with two matching sides, like a butterfly's wings?
Take it further
Color a thick blue band across the middle of a sheet, then glue white and red strips above and below in the same order to make a mirror-image flag.
