Coloring order

  1. Start with the steep cliff in a gray-brown as the biggest shape, and use two greens for the trees and grass in the cracks.
  2. On the Tiger's Nest monastery halfway up the cliff, color the white walls, red bands and golden roofs in the same order on every building.
  3. Last, color the waving girl's red top and horizontal-striped skirt, giving every stripe its own color.

Questions to talk about

  • What path would you take to climb up to the house on the cliff?
  • What sounds might you hear if you woke up on a high rock?
  • Do you have a favorite patterned outfit, like a striped skirt?

Take it further

Crumple a sheet of paper into a bumpy cliff, then stand small paper houses on it to make a village built up high.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
