Coloring order
- Start with the straight stone causeway and the railings on both sides in a pale ochre, shifting the color a little along each seam between slabs.
- Color the tallest tower in the middle and the two pairs that step down on either side in the same brown family, from big to small.
- Last, finish with a dark color for the pointed carved layers on the towers, the doorway above the central steps and the rows of small windows.
Questions to talk about
- Which of the five towers do you like best, and why?
- What thoughts might come to you walking along the stone path to the entrance?
- Have you ever seen a mossy stone or a very old place?
Take it further
Stack paper cups or small boxes of different sizes into a tall middle tower and shorter side towers, and find a way to keep the tallest one from toppling.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
