Coloring order

  1. Start with the straight stone causeway and the railings on both sides in a pale ochre, shifting the color a little along each seam between slabs.
  2. Color the tallest tower in the middle and the two pairs that step down on either side in the same brown family, from big to small.
  3. Last, finish with a dark color for the pointed carved layers on the towers, the doorway above the central steps and the rows of small windows.

Questions to talk about

  • Which of the five towers do you like best, and why?
  • What thoughts might come to you walking along the stone path to the entrance?
  • Have you ever seen a mossy stone or a very old place?

Take it further

Stack paper cups or small boxes of different sizes into a tall middle tower and shorter side towers, and find a way to keep the tallest one from toppling.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
