Coloring order
- Start with the sea in two blues, following the wave lines, and color the big rock the mermaid sits on in brown and gray.

- Last, color each little house on the left a different roof color, then the white paper boat he holds and the stone path.
Questions to talk about
- Where would the boy like to send his paper boat?
- Sitting on the rock and watching the sea, what do you think the mermaid statue is thinking about?
- Have you ever played with a little boat at the water's edge?
Take it further
Fold a paper boat and float it in a big basin of water. What would you like to send sailing on it?
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
